Helpline / Re: Duke Title
« on: December 28, 2019, 11:51:59 PM »
I do seem to remember that back in the day, the lord of a city was the Duke. There was no separate "Duke" and "Lord" titles. I want to say 2010 and before? Am I smoking crack? This could be what he is thinking of?

Yes. Yes. No. :P

Only the ruler can create new duchies or appoint new dukes, so no you couldn't have claimed dukeship without rulership.
Also the fact that your margrave doesn't matter, you can become duke without any lordship position.
Duchies work as entities within a realm, a duke is the ruler of that entity, its not a super lordship position or something.
Dukes rule over duchies like rulers over realms, they can appoint nobles to vacant lordship positions and secede the duchy from the realm to form a new realm or changer allegiance to another realm.
If you have more questions you can also try the chat, alot more activity.

Has an option to share messages with certain contacts been considered?
Would be handy to use the new reader to share certain messages based on the catagory options, for example share all messages of guild house A with all realm members or all duchy members.

Feature Requests / Re: Rogue Prison GM

I am not sure if you should see the rogues as a single faction, but rather as various groups of bandits, monsters and undead.
Off course a GM could perhaps play as if he represents all those different kind of groups, but i don't know if that is feasible.
Its hard to be consistent for the GM's rp especially if he doesnt know where you got caught and how.
I wonder if rogues can read or write in the first place, since bandits are peasants and the monsters and undead are, well, monsters and undead...

They do offer you the ransom to pay if iam not mistaken which is questionable already, must be quite the intelligent monsters/undead to figure out what numbers are and what number a prisoner is worth.

If you could imagine all those problems away i still see a problem of people complaining about the GM, freeing certain characters while letting others rot.
Unless the exhange of letters is just flavour or rp.

You'd need the duke title to secede and i dont think its possible while your rogue.
Also more importantly, you need nobles to found a realm.
I can hardly believe you have fellow nobles interested in your realm if your running around as a rogue.
If you do have those nobles: raise an army and take the city to get appointed or get your family really rich(forgot how rich specifically, i believe around 4/5 K) and attempt to forge the documents.

Its ussually easier to scheme your way through a realm to get the right position and the right kind of people on your side to either take control of the realm or secede.

Either way you cant run a realm on your own, the game really isnt made for that.

Westgard and Astrum can also choose to stop their war and start trading with realms that have some sort of a surpluss, like TG :D
TG and Westgard would both get the room to grow in terms of food producing regions and voila, problem solved!

« on: September 17, 2019, 09:58:23 AM »
Make war, not love is your answer.
You might find too much food in times of peace, reason enough to go to war.
If your realm has a massive surplus, all you need to do is deny other realms their surplus in order to force them to buy it from you.
Obviously it isnt easy to scheme out a massive war leading to food shortages and starvation, you'd need to work together with your fellow players, which is a core design of this game, just as warfare is.
Does that help?

Feature Requests / Re: Infiltrator Ability: Spy on Noble
« on: February 11, 2019, 08:43:54 AM »
i like this.
A chance of getting access to some letters a bit like a torture report but instead less messages.
The target should always be the noble though, not the estate.
Make it work just like an assassination attempt but with less risk.
A chance of a fight breaking out, getting caught by guards etc.

I'd like to add the option to steal gold from a noble directly instead the treasury of a region.
This should be a bit more risky then the local treasuries.
The infil can first do some spying, check how much gold the noble has and then decide to go steal it or not.

Perhapa create auto mssags for the realm stating the number of title nobles hold with 3 or more, ciing that the locals are taking the titles less and less serious.
This can result in lowering stats for the region title or realm wide slowly mounting trouble for governement positions.
Perhaps lower troop morale for a multi title general.

Was it a voluntary choice to implement the TO restrictions below a certain density, before implementing the hintherland feature?

If, on the other hand, everyone just says, "Astrum is terrible, don't go there, no one ever does anything," then there's no chance for the realm to improve.

Yes very true.
Everytime we complain we should realize instead what we can do to change that which we don't like.

My character tried a bit and left eventually, sort of the cowards way out.
But its definitely easier to leave and join realms that are more fun than to put effort in making a boring realm fun.

I dont think i am exaggeration at all, you on the other hand are turning a drop of water into an ocean by promoting astrum like that.
You can't say Astrum goes on regular looting expeditions if you went on one looting mission last half year or so.
It's not about the rogues nor other external factors, in fact giving arguments like those proofs the exact mindset that makes realms boring.
Who wants to sit in a realm that never takes risks?
Astrum is rigid, communicates very little realm wide and doesn't do anything to incorporate new nobles or give ambitious nobles room to take responsibilities or pursue careers.
These nobles cant even discuss things since no information gets to them(quite often because there is nothing to share) and there is no one to discuss it with.
Happens allot in BM though(maybe a majority of all realms) and it isnt easy to keep a realm dynamic, but i think we all have to do our best to make the game fun for all instead of creating a rigid hierarchical structure with a silent majority serving their masters.

That's an interesting description of the realm from someone who is no longer there.

I played in Astrum since 2016 until a few weeks ago.
But yeah i can't judge Astrum as it is in the last two weeks or so, which is why i started with:
Quote
unless Astrum has drastically changed in the last weeks none of that is true at all.

unless Astrum has drastically changed in the last weeks none of that is true at all.

Astrum was extremely dull and it lost several good players because nothing at all was happening.
There is no realm wide discussion and by far, letters including personal letters are left un replied.

Its hierarchy isnt open at all even though there where no active marshals for example.

We sat around waiting for weeks without anything happening while all sugestions where ignored.
Eventually some people simply went rogue by heading west to collect gold but all the messages we ever received was not to do that and eventually we where just ignored.

Antigone set up a guild for looting tax gold and did alot of effort to get a special army in Astrum for nobles who wanted to loot do something other then waiting for orders that never come.
The idea was to put people in armies based on what they wanted, so if you want to sit around and do nothing you'd have an army but you'd also have an army for you if you wanted to go out and loot.
One duke liked and supported the idea but didn't do anything with it as he didn't want to upset the government with creating an army.
The government was against it because it was afraid the realm would be left unprotected if a few active nobles would go out looting.
Some promised expeditions that never came for months.

No discussion where realm wide, no letters shared by governement members and suggestion like these wherent discussed but just ignored and eventually turned down.
Astrum has a council where they presumably discuss everything but it wasn't open nobles with actual ideas, writing actual letters.

There was nothing else going on in Astrum, no religious discussions either.
I am sorry to say but as former member of Astrum i cannot find any truth in anything your saying to promote Astrum.
It has in fact been one of the worse realms i have ever been in.
Astrum does have very good RC's and knight shares are around 200 gold most of the time.
so basically its a good realm to start in and get some gold in order join more interesting realms with a decent unit and personal wealth.
But definitely not a fun or interesting realm to play in.
It used to be different, but that doesn't matter if you are thinking about joining now.

Feature Requests / Character letter endings
« on: December 06, 2018, 09:50:28 AM »
Character letter endings:

Summary:
Some characters have unique letter endings under every letter sent, possibly to emphasize what they are all about.
Examples:
Yours,
Regards,
Signed and Sealed,
In Arms,
A fare thie well,
Strength and Glory,
By the Great Goat's mercy,

Instead of manually writing these letter endings we can build a feature that adds that particular ending under every letter, report, order or request.

Details:
Letter types could be set as an extra condition, one could set an ending for letter type of messages only, or choose to use endings just for order type of messages.
Multiple endings for different types could also be interesting to some.

Benefits:
a character can be expressed simply but effectively more easily in every message.
Many people already take the effort to manually use endings, taking this effort away could attract more players to use it.

Possible Downsides/Exploits:
lowering the bar to use endings might also have negative side effects like lower quality endings.
It needs work to get implemented with more important things still TODO.
