...that's the problem... your infil's name is shown to everyone and their dog in region details... permanently.

Yes. Because he's a noble.

I have never played an infiltrator so thins may be a stupid suggestion. Perhaps an "under cover" or "sneak" option? This way your infil moves and acts like your normal noble but they can select an option and then become less detectable. Maybe even allow them to chose a false name? then the infil can throw off his disguise. Just random thoughts is all...

fodder

that will be the old infil. which got changed to the current one...

OK. Then I get the concept of the old version. I am not sure I grasp the idea of the new one. Perhaps this lack of understanding goes beyond me. Could someone explain how the new infils work? How do they operate? How can the manage surprise attacks and enact shady deeds when they are plainly in the open for all to see? How can they even hope to attack the same realm twice? Or escape after the first attack for that matter?

I just read up on infiltrators on the wiki. They totally sound like someone stealthily going about and reeking havoc. It sounds like moving undetected behind enemy lines and even in your own realm is the meat of this class. From what I gather from this post it is all wrong. I do not blame people for complaining when they go into the class expecting to be ninja like but ending up being something else entirely... Then again I could be reading the wiki wrong.

Infiltrators only sneak around when they are actively doing their dirty deeds.

That means that you stride into town with your unit and retinue, settle yourselves at an expensive hotel, and then around midnight, you sneak out the window and skulk your way up to the palace.  You sneak in, stab the Grand Vizier, and sneak back to your rooms.  There, you take off your incriminating black outfit and put on your sumptuous nightclothes.  In the morning, you get up, put on something extravagant and noble, and continue strutting on your merry way.

OK. That makes some sense. Doesn't that severely limit an infiltrators options as far as operating behind enemy lines go? How could the even get to the target?  Even if they do It would not take much to assume that the only foreign noble in the region of an attack of illegal act is probably the infiltrator. Especially when I look up his character and see that they ate an X/Infil. How do people make this work?

Ah, no. No one, not even the character's realm mates, can actually see that someone is, say, W/I. Infiltrator does not show up under class. Still, that's irrelevant, because if you're caught even once, everyone will know anyway.

fodder

not supposed to wander around on their own...

you are supposed to fight big battle, win, then stab someone, fail and get captured whilst away from your unit.

i think the wiki is probably talking about the old version.

It is good to know that you can not see the Infil subclass. How are all those other obstacles overcome? Just move with the army? Never strike unless you have enough other foreigners around you? I have to say that he old version sounds a lot more fun!

The ruler of a realm can see the infil subclass for nobles in their realm.

Not necessarily. Depends on how and why. And if anyone notices.
If at first you don't succeed, don't take up skydiving.

infils aren't meant to be ninjas anymore...

Patrols are the new ninja's.

Seriously, those guys must have some serious skills.

Indeed. Last turn I arrived in an enemy region, with no nobles/militia, did 3 high risk counts of stealing tax gold, and a medium risk production sabotage. All successful without even getting noticed by the guards, as there were no reports of increased guard activity. The next turn, I'm picked up by patrols.

ditto

I hardly ever get caught doing shady stuff, even with a fairly beginner infil

patrols nail me constantly.

Oh, and for the umpteenth time - Infils DON'T stride into town openly and then change in a phone booth somewhere to sneak out and wreak havoc when town is an ENEMY CITY or region, right? Please stop trying to force a "vision" of what an infil is that clearly doesn't jibe with any sort of in-game reality. That just causes confusion and very long threads...
