Duchal Referendums
« Topic Start: April 01, 2011, 06:31:15 PM »
To improve and support Ducal level playing and ducal orientated Politics, we should be able to hold duchal referendums, between all nobles or all lords, just like there are referendums for the entire realm.

Great Idea. Should require very little coding(relatively), for a great gain in RP potential and gameplay intrigue.

Yeah. Dukes should play a bigger role than just a city's mayor.

This is the first time that I've read someone say that Dukes are underpowered.
The above is accurate 25% of the time, truthful 50% of the time, and facetious 100% of the time.

If your Duke is underpowered, you're not making full use of his capabilities ;)

That being said, +1 for duchy referendums. It could make internal duchy politics a bit more interesting, methinks.

Universally, or for specific government types?

In what way punishable? As in, the duke can be fined for running a duchal referendum? Because that would provide the basis to go back to where we started, as in, without such a feature.

yes every realm should have the option to have some sort of absolute tyranny or monarchy with no duchal politics allowed.
Most realms will not make it punishable i think.

No need to make any additions to Referendums for that. Simply ask your Judge to take action, if he thinks he can handle the Duke...

It could be a cool feature. I don't imagine it would be difficult to add.

Telrunya,

Do you play LoL?

That sort of thinking is exactly how you end up with a game full of features, with steep learning curves and inconstancies. Features should be added because they bring a great benefit, not because they are cool.

To be fair on this point, the people actually concerned with running these things would be dukes. And I would certainly hope whoever is a duke would have at least a good couple months of experience with the various features of BM.

I don't think it would add much complexity. It would just add another option for the existing referendums system. Also, Dukes will have often been in game for a significant period of time so learning curve shouldn't be much of an issue.

Perhaps this is only my personal experience, but are custom referendums (not the game generated ones for elections) even used all that much? I know I have perhaps only seen them used perhaps 2 or 3 times tops in the 3 years I've been playing. But again, maybe this is only my own experience. Based on this, I don't really see Ducal Referendums ever being used much.
