Year Zero (Colonies reset) rumor is just that

I'm all for a player-driven effort, and if you need a small code change or feature to make it reality, I'd be more than willing to put that on the TODO list.

But there will not be a developer-caused reset of any kind. The South Islands were the only exceptions the game has ever had, in over 12 years.

IG I developed an apocalypse cult way back in the days of Alowca which did envisage the destruction of the Colonies in just that way and my characters are still operating in that framework, but OOC I'm very glad a reset won't be happening

You missed the apocalypse... The Lich King came years ago, got board...then left.  Oddly enough 27 maidens gave birth to zombies and animated skeletons.  We just shipped them over to OT and all was well.
