Something about keeping an eye on the naughty cheating "ForumMaster" players that a handful of people were whining about.
That's a very negative way to put it, but it is pretty close.
Research (google it yourself, I'm too busy, sorry) indicates that eye contact is a major factor in human interaction, and the lack of eye contact in interactions deteriorates them. It is one of the contributing factors to the well-known fact that people are in general less friendly online than they would be in a real-life interaction. Now some research proves that this is such an instinctive effect, that even an
image of an eye measurably improves online interaction.
That being said, there was nothing all that amazing about the old logo, either.
If you look closely, I did spend 5 minutes in Photoshop to put the old logo in as the iris of the eye. :-)
