error 504 gateway timout
« Topic Start: October 12, 2013, 04:33:54 AM »
Hi, every time I try to access www.battlemaster.org from my laptop or desktop computerI receive the message error 504 gateway timeout. No matter what I do I can't seem to access the website.

I do not know if it is relevant but my wife and I had to leave town for a family emergency which resulted in our characters being paused for inactivity.

when we came back home was the first time that I had this problem and have not been able to play the game or access the website ever since.

Your characters were deleted? You must have been gone for a long time. We switched servers a couple months ago. Maybe your computer is still using the old dns information.

Yes, I was gone for 3 weeks.  I'm not worried about the characters, I'm new anyhow and the family hadn't accomplished much aside from a medal or two.

What would I do about a DNS problem?

Not... likely, no.

What would I do about a DNS problem?

Try browsing directly to http://5.35.247.190

If that page loads, it's potentially a DNS issue, but you'll want to keep in mind that even if that page loads you wont be able to play the game from that URL. This can be resolved by modifying your DNS configuration to use a known-good DNS server (such as Google's public DNS). Googling will give you all the information you need to do that.

If the page doesn't load, you might have some kind of proxy interfering with your connection, or just bad luck. Try refreshing the page a couple of times: if issues persist after waiting a few hours/a day, you might want to talk with your ISP to figure out what's going on.

Well, from what I've been able to investigate, it would appear likely they my security suite was too comprehensive and repeatedly conflicted with the servers particularly invasive identification protocol.  I believe this may have lead to my IP being blocked.  I'm not yet certain, as I have received no notification or warning of either the problem or the result. Maybe a mod will contact me.

Your IP isn't blocked and I'm not sure what your security suite could be doing that would cause this behavior.

Were you able to access the site with the suite disabled? What is the suite?

Oddly enough, i just had this happen about two hours ago. And now that I've seen it again, i can recall it happening several weeks ago, too. When it happens, i can't get to the forums or the game.

actually i am only able to access this site (or any part of battlemaster.org) from a different computer than either of mine, or if i turn the security all the way up, in which case it uses a proxy IP for identity protection. I rarely have it turned up that high.

I somewhat often have received this message, after accessing the site, while playing on my account:
"Failed Access

It seems you have attempted a character access without providing proper credentials. This attempt has been logged and denied.

For all we know, there are four possible reasons:

You may have bookmarked the wrong page, as for security reasons we can not allow you to get to your characters without identifying yourself first.
Solution: Please bookmark the login page instead and use that to access the game.
You were on the family page and didn't do anything for at least 20 minutes before you clicked the "play" link. This causes the session to time out.
Solution: Go back to the login page and log in again.
You could also be a hacker attempting to break into someone else's account. In that case, consider yourself warned. We have logged this attempt and your IP address. Any and all hacking attacks are considered cheating and will be dealt with appropriately.
Solution: Stop hacking a free webgame. Make life difficult for people who are at least paid for their wasted time.
Finally, there could be something wrong in your proxy, firewall or other security settings, with your browser, the current phase of the moon or the subatomic particle phase-state of the universal wave function as manifested in your spacetime location.
Solution: Check these things, in that order."

I had not always received that message, but when i did i usually turned off the security setting that prevent data collection, location detection, and cookie placement, etc, and i would usually get to continue playing. Occasionally, after receiving that message i would not be able to continue playing, even after turning all of the settings down, short of completely disabling my firewalls and security, which i am not really supposed to do on my network.

Due to the fact that i am only denied access to the site when using the natural IP of my desktop and laptop, i have inferred that my IP has been blocked.

Due to the security conflicts being the only known problem i have had previously (and still, even when i access from a different IP on the same network) i inferred that those conflicts are related.

Maybe there is another angle to look into? I'm looking forward to a solution.

Thank you, to the Mods, for responding so quickly.
I appreciate your time.

Try adding battlemaster.org to your safe sites list, so that its cookies don't get deleted by your security product.

Yes, thank you, I have since done that, but too late it seems, as 2 of my consoles can no longer connect using their natural IP.  If I can some how rectify that situation, I'm confident that I can clear up the security conflicts now that I have a better idea of what they are.  Before the IP problem, the conflicts were just a nuisance and I never paid them much attention.

Sorry, I meant to say paused.  Edited.

I don't really think it's relevant though, as the only variable to weather I can access the site or not is weather I use one of 2 specific IP addresses that seem unable to access it.
