Units of metal

I just clicked on option to "repair equipment" and I got following information:
Quote
Your troops' equipment is 1% damaged.
Repairing all damage will cost 1 gold and 2 units of metal.
Repair all damage (1 gold, 1 hour)
I never payed much attention to this but I am little bit curious.
In region reports I never noticed information about production of units of metal.
I also searched, but I haven't found, information about how many units of metal are stored in my region.

Is any building producing units of metal or does a region just produce it automatically?
Where can I find how many units of metal is available in my region?
Is it possible to trade units of metal between regions?

It should be removed. This will almost certainly never be implemented. And not soon in any case.
