I kind of like this idea of making profit or paying it out of your own pocket in case you want to lower your prices. How that could be done more technically I'll leave aside for the moment.
However, what I think will happen is region lords systematically increasing the buying price of their recruitment centers. Because face it, everyone wants more gold
