I have a battle scribe note from Dwilight to show you. Through the whole battle, our archers were able to fire at the monsters. Then, once the monsters break through the front lines, the "archers move forward to get better shots" even though they were able to shoot at the monsters the entire time.

Is my interpretation of this wrong? Should archers be doing this?

Anaris

Not a bug.

It's not "once the monsters break through the front lines", it's "once the monsters are engaged in close combat with the infantry".  The monsters broke through the front lines after the archers advanced.

Archers cannot shoot into melee more than 1 row away.

Is the advancing determined by aggressive/normal/defensive?

Anaris

No. If archers have no target in range, and there are targets left on the field, they will advance to find one.

Can you provide a battle report for that?

Fissoa just saw this as well:

Sunflights (6) fire on Monsters (1), scoring 111 hits.
Defenders of the South (2) fire on Monsters (1), scoring 223 hits.

becomes

Defenders of the South (2) move closer so they can fire safely into the melee.
Sunflights (6) fire carefully into the close combat near them.
Sunflights (6) fire on Monsters (1), scoring 0 hits.

and

Here it is. Dwilight. First round, all the archers target the peasants, thus screwing the infantry. :P

Archers always fire on closest target.

Okay, but should they be scoring only 1 hit for firing into a melee?
