So You Want To Be The Duke Ozrat, do you?
« Topic Start: August 08, 2011, 03:44:34 PM »
But am I wrong? I really tried to be honest...  :-\

The only part where you are wrong is in saying that military types need not apply. Ohnar West is probably the only place I know where the ability to read a map is sufficient to get you named General. There were times when that was sorely lacking.

And we're not even talking about the high threshold needed to be named Duke.....

Moderator edit: I screwed up the split and typo'd the thread name. Not sure if this will fix it...

Sir Claude: "Hey, we need a duke in Ozrat. I'm the only one here in the city. And the entire Arcachonian army is between the city and everyone else in the realm. I know I'm only 17, and that I've only been in the realm for 6 days, but can I duke?"

Prime Minister Selene: "Meh, what the hell."

*poof*

Duke Claude: "w00t!"

That is just hilarious :D Thanks for making my day :P (that sounds kind of sad)

Funniest part is that worked, did it not?  He got enough militia up to make the difference?

Heh. I did my usual. Wrote a fairly comprehensive post and then deleted it all. This topic isn't intended to slate OW, after all :)

There's plenty of problems there and probably always has been. Anyone in FEI knows that. They have two things in their favour though. The first is that they survived in spite of those problems. The second is that, with those problems, there's a lot of opportunity to step up and start fixing them. Fixing problems, or trying to, generally finds support anywhere you go and so being even moderately active and involved is likely to land you in the realm council or, at least, the senate. It probably doesn't mean as much as similar achievements elsewhere, but once you're up there, there's little enough stopping you from trying to make real improvements.

Wouldn't it be funny if Claude turned into another Hamilton Vita? Disasterous for not only OW, but entertaining nonetheless :)

Finton.

P.S. While I don't plan on moving any of my characters any time soon, or creating a new one, I'd be interested to see what is said about the southern realms which I do not know nearly as well as the north.

P.P.S. Arcachon can be compared to Ireland of old? That just put things far more into perspective than before. Y'know, slaves from your neighbouring land mass may just provide you with a saint or two (",)

I'm not sure if he managed to be appointed early enough to do that. But he was able to repair the walls that wee in danger of being knocked down a level.

Claude and two other people did do a lot of heavy recruiting for the three or four battles that happened in Ozrat. Personally, I'm hoping that Claude holds on to the duchy, and doesn't pull a "I'll step down for the rightful duke" act. Because if the realm starts demanding that, then I'm going to demand that Jatha gives back Akanos. :P

Should I delve back into history and request Ozrat back for Veleno then? :P

Perhaps a few of these posts can be taken off to a "let's all bash Ohnar West" thread, instead of clogging up a helpful guide to the Far East?

On topic, I'd like to see guides from both insider and outsider perspectives. It's all well and good saying your realm is brilliant and amazing (Indirik being the exception to that rule), but it might not be so great if everyone else on the island thinks your realm is utterly terrible.

Sure, why not? That's the kind of slippery slope you get into when you start giving up a title so the "rightful noble" can have it back. Makes for lots of good RP and arguments, too.

As a player, I'm actually quite happy that Claude was appointed. It gives some new blood a chance to take part in the decision making.

As a character, Veleno is a little miffed since he's a follower of Sartan (just found this out, which is annoying as she's been rather pleasant with him up till now) and annoyed at Selene for not opening it up for elections.

I'll see how it goes with the Sasrhas ducal seat. If she gets that, then I won't really have an argument for "I'll step down to get Ozrat back" as that sounds silly. If not, then I'll wait and see what happens.

As Claude himself, it just cracked me up to find this forum post. And in Claude's defense, I would point out that he and just a couple other nobles, with a whole bunch of gold sent to us, managed to save the city. I was flat out blown away though that Claude was actually appointed, even though I think he'll do a good job.
Mainly, this should be an encouragement to newer players that if you don't try and reach a bit with your characters, nothing interesting is likely to happen to your characters, and that trying and failing leaves you where you were before, but with others aware that you want to be involved.
The Finsternis family welcomes you.

This was one of Selene's points, too. Claude actually showed interest and initiative to do something. That is sorely lacking in Ohnar West.

Now he showed so much initivative that he changed realm with the entire Ozrat duchy ;)

Just for posterity, Selene knew about the plans to secede and supported it. All part of her cunning plan to ultimately establish a Sartanian realm.
