The problem with the "big" lies is that when they unravel, and they nearly always do, everything unravels with them. Keeping everything factual and putting a slight spin on things my not make such a sinister tale, but it is much better at preserving your nobles and realms integrity. Besides its not really our doing, if PeL wasn't full of so many schemers we wouldn't have so much material.
The lies and propaganda that were developed against SA are *masterful* in their spin on events. Almost all of it has a kernel of truth, even if it's horribly twisted in its interpretation. That's what makes it so believable, especially if you're already inclined to distrust SA. The best lies always have their basis in something true.
