I'm reading Book 5 right now and it's intense! There are more characters, plots, great imagination and detail. Absolutely love it, though he should have made it officially 1,000 pages  :P

I started watching the series yesterday. Four episodes in one go!
The books will have to wait until after the exams.

Game of thrones is really a great serie with alot of parallels to BM.
A great script and some great actors(i am personally quite fond of the Lanister dwarf)
Aside from the overall parallels (like the plots, the drama, the wars, the daimons and undead) there are also some really funny exact parallels i noticed with my own characters.

I find it so funny to see the fat king character (that dies from the boar hunt) laughs and looks exactly like my character Abbot.
There is also a courtesan named Shae in the serie who looks and is exactly how i imagined Shae in the first place.(yeah i wanted to play a noble whore)
If Shae wouldn't have been so spoiled by the ibladeshian lords without having to do much for it(200/300+ shares :P) in her stay there she'd probably still be a courtesan and just trick every man into her little plots. to a certain extend she still does.. :P
Even her accent fits, although hers is more russian (as well as her typical facial features)my family presents one with balkan like ethnicity, there all black of hair with eastern names mostly inspired on Vlad Tepes.

The Shae of GoT will probably get more interesting in season 2.
I obviously really like her.

The plot twists are great and ruthless, which rarley happens in big hollywood movies or series. your favorite character just simply dies out of the blue.
the middle ages where exactly like that, life was short and intense.
I think Tom said this before, it's exactly why it's so darn good.

The actress herself is also a pot star.  For people who, uh, are interested in such things.

I don't like Shae. In the books she is a commoner, a Kingslander, a camp follower and whore who dreams of becoming a noble lady and is giggly and fun. In the show, she has some "foreign" accent, is exotic and witty, and less fun to chat with than Ned.
Lokenth, Warrior of Arcaea, former Adventurer
Adamir, Lord of Luria Nova

I'd watched the show and thoroughly enjoyed it, the week after it finished I met someone in Stockholm who was carrying around the first book with him. Had a bit of a chat and he went on about how great the rest of the books were so I thought I'd give them a go.

Got all 5 on my kindle, and did the first 4 (inc. both parts of book 3) in 6 weeks (which, considering how little free time I have now was quite something). About 70% through the last book now, and will be very impatient for the next one to come out. There are comments that he'd already written a big chunk of the next book by the middle of last year, so why are there such huge gaps between releases???

Very much enjoy the books though, not sure how well they'll be able to convey all the politics that goes on when the TV show continues (if they go to the ends of the books) but will look forward to seeing how they cope.

I was in a bit of a "what the hell just happened" daze for a while after getting through the Red Wedding bit...
WARNING: Outer Tilog is different...
