Helpline / Re: Placeholder Rule
« on: December 29, 2014, 01:17:22 AM »
The problem is the idea that a title can be held temporarily in reserve for another individual, for example a character that is paused for two weeks while the player goes on vacation. If that player is your Ruler and you elect a new one then that character is not entitled to receive his job back and it is against the rules to act as if he is entitled to it even if the election was held with the understanding that the title will be temporary. Basically, possession is 10/10ths of the law.

At least, that's my understanding of the rule and hopefully someone can confirm.

My first active role was in the first Niselur:  I wrote a roleplay when the general/marshal was wounded in battle against the undead and my character fought to his side to protect him; he got promoted to Vice-Marshal the next day.  That got me bumped right up in the hierarchy when we started reclaiming regions in the Gaston area; being Astrum's banker was fun too, put a system in place to basically automate the whole process. 8)

Helpline / Re: Archers Without Range
« on: May 02, 2014, 05:28:32 AM »
I'd guess that this is his starting unit. I can easily believe there is still a bug with the random range on starting archers that can let it be 0.

When I created my character Cathan, the starting archer unit did not display range but it still fired from 2 or 3 ranks away (I don't recall which).

Eirikr, has Sven been in a battle yet?

Hacking and Mind Control are, yes, and I believe the Charge Lasers as well.

Yup; they added a whole mess of stuff for the advanced addition.  They also added chain lasers (and ions), which charge slow to start but charge faster each time they're fired up to a maximum.  The vulcan laser's minimum charge time (after being fired ~5 times) is like 1 second, it's insane.  The best part of Advanced Edition is, of course, that it's free!

If you have a chance to pick up the vulcan laser, do it.  Once it gets up to speed the description doesn't lie: it kills anything.  That's how I just beat it with the Mantis cruiser to unlock the type C (of course that 4-man teleportation room is nasty too).

The Divides can be bypassed in the east without hitting desert, and the eastern sea can be sailed.  It's still a long trip, but Donghaiwei -- Poryatown shouldn't take more than a few days, I think.

unduly clever ways of circumventing the monsters

(I kid, I kid).

I think that sounds like a great idea.  Although, I had an estate in a region and only saw the "burn food" option rather than a "steal food" option.

They've been informed, but if they're talking about it it's in the ruler's channel.  I would imagine they would demand a lord loyal to Astrum or Morek be in charge, though.

Every turn, in the prison menu.
Don't you need to have been there for a certain period of time, or is that just heroes?

Nope. It's just never been a common thing to have access to.

It's only available for heroes, and you need to have a certain amount of gold on hand and family gold. And then you just need to get lucky.

Oh, I didn't realize it was a hero-specific action.  On my old character (who was a hero), I seemed to get the option each time I was in the region he was lord of, so I assumed it was a feature related to being a lord (and I have very rarely actually been in the regions my character has been lord of).  But now that I actually *want* to move it, I can't (because I'm not a hero!)!  Oh well; thanks for clearing that up for me, Anaris.

I seem to remember it used to be possible to relocate your family home.  Has this feature since been removed?

I have departed, and I'll see how it turns out. Dev aid for this idea would be most appreciated, but for now we will have to trust the RP ability of the player population.

Anyways, now here I am hoping I don't get imprisoned while travelling. That'd suck big time. Stupid war  ::)

What realm is your character from?

Honestly, it would be pretty good if several thousand CS (10k-20k) of monsters crossed into the Nifel peninsula; it would pull Morek north and force a treaty with Asylon which would leave them in control of Unterstrom (which would be good for the game even if my character will swear a thousand oaths of vengeance).  It would also make the monster invasion feel more "real" because of the legitimate threat of annihilation across the bridges of Yggdramir; more organic and less gamey, if you will.  Plus it's somewhat awkward that Astrum's capital is now at Mimer, but they still hold Valkyrja way up there in the north.
