'cause heck, if Niselur decides it doesn't want Terran to exist anymore... it won't.

Alaster and Turin are doing this on their own very well. Both of them have sent letters to literally all nobles of Niselur in attempt to destabilize and overthrow Leopold. This is a standard Dustole move of sending out feelers like he used to do with Allison. However, Alaster is no Allison from her best days, and such a tactic doesn't pass with fresh and unproven characters like Alaster is. When Alaster realized that his political move won't gain him back-up from the Church like he expected, he threw a hissy fit at Leopold and meekly offered a duel to death. Normally, much more than fate of Terran is at stake for Leopold to accept it.

Kas's invitation to Niselur was given to him right in the aftermath of the rebellion when I was desperate to attract as many people as I could for Niselur's political and military position was very fragile and I needed players willing to play and contribute. I always assumed he was a quirky and inflammatory character due to his reputation, and so far he has delivered. True, occasionally he goes berserk for no obvious reason, but so far he has been more worth than trouble although some may disagree with this. Such characters do have their uses and I think Niselur capitalized on this even though Leopold never really guided Kas to act like he does.

It is also worthy to point out that he is no longer an ambassador of Niselur as he has chosen an entirely different profession which auto-demoted him from the position of an ambassador. He still acts like it and occasionally delivers news from his contacts from Old Terran, which Leopold is always interested to hear. Nevertheless, Niselur has no ambassadors at the moment, for majority of players have decided not to pursue this career as soon as possibility of war was hinted. Which is how Leopold likes it due to the sensible diplomatic work that needed to be done and that he wanted to do himself.

Not all Elders are like that, but the vast majority is. To understand the logic of those Elders we first need to realize their nature; they're mostly priests and politicians that don't benefit from intra-SA fighting, cause this diminishes their power and authority. Primarily authority. But on the other hand, they're eager to declare a crusade in those areas where SA's influence can spread and they're doing it to gain authority over larger mass of followers. For successful crusade means more people to do their bidding. It is a gutless politic of convenience that has no similarities with anything that can be considered spiritual. I find it highly amusing that this method backfired and that crusade in Terran has done more damage that what is worth.

From Leopold's perspective, the fact that the Elders are twitching and turning to appease him to rejoin the theocratic family makes him chuckle a bit. The Elders are on their knees and the fact that they bended so easily is another testament to Leopold of their spineless politicking. In the old days, to do what Leopold has done and get away with it would be impossible for the Church has been much more stricter then, but also more righteous than it is now. Now, the Elders seems to be run by characters who endlessly scheme to have their way ( I think some have labeled them as southern republicans ). I think there are a few of such characters, but I am primarily thinking of Hireshmont here for his trick with Terran is what alienated the relations. The fact that other Elders allowed Hireshmont to get away with it, and that he became the loudest voice that represents the Church is where the Elders have probably made a mistake.

From the perspective of a player, the fact that Elders are chickening out is quite a disappointment. To not keep in mind the pros this war would bring to Dwilight and Battlemaster as a whole is an oversight. Its like no one notices that theocracies are graveyards that boast the least number of characters on Dwilight and that are the most empty and void realms to play in. The goal of any player that has an important position in any realm and continent is to ensure that it is fun for others, too. I will draw a parallel with CE here, and say that Dwilight Northern federative block that is without a doubt intertwined and ruled by SA leadership is quite similar to CE. To bitch about a power block on one continent but do a similar thing on the other is quite a misguided understanding of player responsibility, and is usually done by same people.

In any case, I think that the odds for such a war are nowhere as one sided as the Elders think. The power of the theocracies are great even though they are a bit dormant. In fact, Leopold is making a huge risk for Niselur can easily be destroyed in the process. But I, as a player, am ready to take that risk regardless of the consequences and am driving Leopold according to that. I really don't want to have a King in the a** of the world that will never amount to anything or matter to anyone. I've built a massive IC story to further these goals the best I could, and the fact that the Elders are going great lengths to remain in the status quo is making it more difficult. But luckily for the players of Dwilight, the decision no longer rests in the hands of the Elders.

Impressions vary and it is a matter of perspective. Obviously you can't see it from Leopold's perspective, but does it really matter? He doesn't see Pierre von Genf. He sees Pierre von Genf on the helm of D'Hara. D'Hara is a mystery and unlikely a realm that would side with Leopold in anything. It is why I said that the affinity towards D'Hara has decreased.

Yeah, we noticed that with tumbling of Terran. Too bad he never gets to admit it when confronted with it IC. Maybe he will, eventually. When he loses. :)

Well its moving forward. Khari just told the elders FR will support Niselur.

As a player, I do hope that the Church doesn't chicken out now after the massive story build-up.

Do whatever you want, just leave D'Hara & Co. out of it.

Leopold doesn't really care for D'Hara, as probably D'Hara doesn't care for Niselur, even though the two are allied. However, I imagine that the forthcoming conflict will be much more than just Niselur. D'Hara will likely be drawn in whether they like it or not. With the new D'Haran Prime Minister on board, who is giving the impression of a hardcore Elder (which may not necessarily be so), Leopold's affinity towards D'Hara is decreasing. The alliance between Niselur and D'Hara is inconvenient for some I think, and Leopold has much more important allies than D'Hara is. So, as I said, it is likely that D'Harans will share some collateral damage. Dwilight politics combined with the current diplomacy system really is like a maze. Leopold needs break off from the maze if he wants the diplomatic relations to reflect the *real* situation. D'Hara simply doesn't fit in at the moment.

I really should have joined Niselur.

There's time to change that. :)

Well, we are certainly trying to make Niselur stand out from the crowd. The newish players have brought in a lot of dynamics and, along with constant political debates, we have series of roleplay events (which is something that I haven't seen that often). Plus, there is a ton of cultural background and a theme of the realm that we're trying to follow whenever we can. There is a momentum going on, and I, as a player, am looking on how to capitalize on this by using it to attract even more people. This is all intertwined with some fascinating IC events and shortly things should start happening. For better or for worse. As Frostwood said, if we're going to go down it will be in the blaze of glory, although it is my modest opinion that Leopold is way ahead of the Elders at this point. We'll see what happens.

Apart from having a lot more nobles than Melhed, Thalmarkin also had a superior geographic strategic position. Walled regions like Lastfell and Qual were impenetrable, especially considering the active and good player base Thal's had. I am not sure which Thal's region you expect Melhed could've attacked, for Thal had borders in only two above mentioned regions, both filled with militia and easily reinforced by active mobile army. The only way Melhed could've dictated the war was amphibious landing, which Melhed tried, but if Melhed was to employ the all-out-attack strategy over the sea this would then open up the entire Melhedian hinterlands. And this is where number of nobles mattered again, for Thal could always easily spread out Melhed's limited numbers. Melhed never had a chance in the longterm, which is why I found it pointless to have Levon continuing exhausting myself (it was really tense with both time and planning, took more time than I had to invest) in a war that never could have been won for the above mentioned reasons. The war provided much interest though and the aftermath of the War of Ice and Sun is sure to have similar results.

Will we see Leopold dethroned?

You're certainly going to have to fight for it.

We're rather well prepared for eliminating the monsters, with or without nobles. It is not like we have serious monster issues at all. In fact, our nobles are fighting who is gonna be the first one to strike at them. If the army is abroad there are many solution to this, as we, resilient northerners, have learned how to survive in harsh circumstances.  ;)

A newish player, by the name of Rannekk MIllannon. Not only it was a good letter, but more importantly, the new ones are speaking up and actually participating! Yay!

Leopold was pretty verbose himself  ;)

He wasn't very verbose, which is why I am assuming this is sarcasm. If it is not, then I apologize for assuming wrong ;)

The reason he wasn't very verbose against Mordaunt or with the Elders is mostly due to my time restrictions. What Leopold does then is prioritizes and answers the people that actually like and support him first. All of you guys are writing big juicy letters that require big juicy responses and you're usually expecting a response within a day (which is normal). Unfortunately, unlike in my younger days in BM I have a more busier life schedule than I used to and making proper responses usually takes quite some energy; energy which I sometimes don't have. For these reasons I had to ditch one of my other characters career of military leadership as it became quite exhausting to try and make it all work. For example, I have over 10 important marked messages atm that first need to be read and then replied. I don't want to apologize for my real life, that would be silly, I just want to say that I am not ignoring any letters intentionally and I wanted to let that be known. Of course, everyone is free to take this ICly as they see fit and paint Leopold as being intentionally ignoring or intentionally mute for a reason. I am fine with that.
