Actually, many of those quirks should be fixed as of a month or so ago, when I went through and tried to make the regular expressions handling it a bit more sophisticated.

Try it in some of the situations it didn't work in before with the Preview button, see works now :)

Feature Requests / Re: Ambassador title hidden for rulers

Diplomatic actions (raising/lowering loyalty/sympathy) are more effective if you are an Ambassador.  Though why being an Ambassador helps more than being King does I don't know (well, I do, because no one wanted to code for that case, but IC I don't know).

Not so much "didn't want to" as "didn't think of."

Being Ruler should, indeed, lend at least as much weight to your diplomatic actions as being Ambassador.

SM General Discussion / Re: Relaunch ?

Yeah, but does this help me get the stuff from my own account up quickly and publicly for others? I haven't looked at a Google Group in years.

It should, I think.  Just do a mass forward and it should work.

There are cleaner options may be are available depending on what client you have them stored in.  I suggested this one because it's pretty much universal, so far as I know.

Does anyone know of a good way to forward/route these types of things into an archive of some sort without manually adding each message? I've got everything from the reboot labeled and filtered in Gmail, which helps me but probably nobody else.

One could create a Google Group, then have everyone send the messages to its public email address...

I have a group set up like this for the old D-list (but only since maybe 2008 or something).  Hm, maybe I should post that for the people who were asking for an archive...

A message should appear in gold on your family page when the report is reviewed and accepted or rejected.

so it's

buy <blank> X price Y threshold Z region?

is it ok to leave the  amount as blank to buy everything?

No, you can't leave it blank. You have to tell it a maximum amount to buy.  How else does it know how much gold to put into the caravan when it sends it out?

seeing as I read that it's not working, is it a case of people not putting the right bits in, or is it a case of it being just plain bugged?

I don't know.  "I read that it's not working" is so very useless to me as a developer.

If someone can give me facts, rather than rumours, I can try to help.

3. EC.

OK, this is the key piece of information, then.

The changes to population migration have not yet gone to stable.  However, they will with the next update (they are in rev. 5545).

That should make your region's population grow much faster.

Mind explaining to me how we can't already do this? I don't see any missing variable to do so...

Unless I'm missing something, you don't have any way of remotely determining a region's current population and production values.  You need scout reports or an inside source.

I keep seeing good news in random threads. Estate reform possibly by christmas. Other mysterious changes in the works. How will I ever free myself of this game if there's always something juicy and new coming along on the horizon? >.<

Uh-oh! He's figuring out our master plan!

how?

let's say 1 city requires lots of food and buys from 4 regions. how does he setup 4 auto caravans routes to buy?

let's say the 4 regions are respectively 1,2,3,4 regions away and assume they all have sell offers set up already.

You just set up four separate auto-caravan orders, with the same threshold if you want, or different thresholds if you want some kind of escalating system, that go to each of the different regions.

And that's just what I'm trying to get at (I think).  Nobody's a purist in any of the 3 categories.  Or if they really are, they find they have nobody else to play with.

I'm open to all sorts of ideas.  New map (we do, after all, have a few new map projects going on), old unused map (someone mentioned rediscovering the South Island), or a tweaking of the current map (FEI is a modified EI, for example).

I would deeply love to have a BM map—even if not one that were going to be used for the game in the foreseeable future—that was designed sensibly, with cities centering areas that the city can hold and protect, and strongholds blocking chokepoints.  I would be willing to join in on such an endeavour for that alone.

ok... how does buying work then? does the buyer region just keep spamming caravans even if there's nothing to buy on the other end?

Do you mean on the other end of the automatic sell caravan? If so, then just set up an automatic buy offer.

It sounds like you mean an automatic buy caravan, though.  In that case, yes; every time the amount stored is less than the threshold, and there is not currently a caravan out on that route, it will send out a caravan to buy from the specified destination.

However, the idea is that you would either work this out ahead of time with the Lord of the destination region, or pick a region that has an automatic buy price displayed.

Not just high population regions. One of my characters is lord of a woodland region on EC with a maximum population of 5800. It was devastated when I got it, and some five months or more later it's barely reach a quarter of its maximum pop. That seems ridiculously extreme.

  • What have the stats been like?
  • Has it been well-fed?
  • What continent?
  • Is it adjacent to fully-populated or well-populated regions?

Hm.

What if there were configurable preferences for marked message behaviour?

1) It's not "each harvest." It's "whenever you have over X bushels in the warehouse."  If it were "each harvest," that would cause all kinds of problems with food not being transferred because it didn't quite get there in time.

2) Bearing that in mind, you would set up an automatic caravan order to sell to <destination region>, with the threshold at 400, and the amount being something high, like 1000.  If you want to just give the food away, you can now set the sell price to 0, or you can set it to whatever you can see that <destination region>'s offering to buy for.
