I too cannot pick a single book, however a selection series I thoroughly loved reading:

The Dreamers, by David & Leigh Eddings
Dune, by Frank Herbert (and to a lesser extend, the sequels/prequels by his son)
Discworld, by Terry Pratchett (mainly stories about The Watch)

If I was going to pick something from Eddings it would probably be the Elenium; didn't really enjoy the Dreamers. Dune is brilliant and I can't think of anything else in the genre that stands up to it, sadly including its sequels. Big fan of Terry Pratchett, read most of the Discworld novels.

What's this about people ganging up on Enweil? I've 'only' been around for two-three years, but all of the wars I've seen Enweil fight have been on fairly even terms.

Put me down as another who couldn't just pick one. That said, I will offer up something a little less well know that's a favourite.

Anyone read The Blade Itself (and sequels) by Joe Abercrombie?

How did that happen?

At least six were banned; all of whom were refugees from another realm and were suspected to be trying to take over.

My point still stands though, even after the purge they're bigger than OI or Eponllyn.

Indeed it was. Another scar to add to Ravier's body somewhere. One of these days they'll add up and he'll be dead.

You're not even the third longest serving hero in Westmoor yet!

Ok, with hindsight it does need explanation.

There are two-variants of "blight"; the actual Blight (which we cannot even enter) and Dark Clouds (which can be travelled through and controlled as normal, but suffer some stat penalties). The first map is from before the introduction of Dark Clouds, so you can easily tell the difference between Blighted and Unblighted regions. Unfortunately in the second one, the overlay makes it difficult to tell the difference between Blight and Dark Cloud by colour alone.

An easier way to tell if a region is Blighted or not is to see if the borders show up. For example, you can see the full borders of the regions south of Sint (which are Daimon controlled, but only covered by Dark Clouds). By contrast, you can't see the borders of the regions south of those, which are fully blighted.

On your left, you have Beluaterra on March 4, at more or less the maximum extent of the Blight. On your right is Beluaterra today.

Most of it is self explanatory, but one little thing I thought I'd point out is how the Blight in the sea south of Enweil has started to fade away (you can also see it too a lesser degree west of Sint). A nice touch from Tom imo.

Yeah, it isn't a perfect explanation unfortunately. Something similiar happened when Firbalt was unblighted after Darkest Hour of the West was killed.

My best theory is that Grehk and Firbalt were unblighted because they were closest to the south and west borders respectively. If that's correct, when DHoE is killed, Vur Hagin should be unblighted, while Ossmat and Bil Havil should be unblighted when the northern Blight Daimon is killed.

Since Zaki is lazy, I'll finish it for him  :P

6. Nivemus - In terms of income the sixth through to eighth realms are almost impossible to split. Nivemus has lots of nobles and a favourable strategic position due to their alliance with Sirion, putting them ahead of their rivals.

7. Eponllyn - About to face their moment of truth against Armonia. Control the breadbasket of the south, but thats unlikely to prove much of an advantage until Ibaldesh city recovers.

8. Obsidian Islands - Cursed by geography. Nevertheless, may soon seize seventh position if the war goes poorly for Eponllyn.

9. Fontan - A decade long history is about to end.

It probably makes more sense when you look at it on a map.

Essentially, killing a Darkest Hour pushes the blight back "one region" in the relevant direction. Thus Rii, Rueffilo, Byr, Thromengor, Nemeno, Fymmen Otu, Ete City, Shifgrethor and Rinqen (the unblighted regions) were all along the southern border. By contrast, Fengen and Enweillos are on the eastern border; I'm not really sure how Fwovoghor will fit in.

Yeah, looks like you rolled a couple of ones there.

It works the other way as well of course.

Sint's ruler was never known for his activity.

Don't know what you're basing that off. Benton was probably the most active ruler back when I was King of OG.

I hold out a faint hope that Chenier is actually conducting an elaborate satire.
