Picked up by patrols

I'm guessing this has changed a bit since I last played  :P

My infiltrator keeps getting picked up by patrols when trying to enter an enemy city. May be exaggerating, but it seems like close to 50% of the time.

Just wondering what factors are involved (without giving away secrets):

- Number of troops in the city
- If they are patrolling the streets
- My infil's skill level
- other

or is it just pure bad luck?

Jens Namtrah

no thoughts on this? just bad luck?

The factors you listed are all relevant, so far as I know.  Offhand, I don't know of any others (though when the treaty system starts working, various treaty statuses will have different effects).  Depending on how many troops are in the city, I'd say that getting caught trying to move in is fairly common, though I'm not sure what percentage it might be.

I thought the population of a region also affected how likely you are to get caught. More people = higher chance of being arrested.

As far as I've seen, crossing regions full of soldiers (be it militia or an army) indeed makes the life of an infiltrator harder. Given that cities are usually crowded with militia, that can explain it.

nobody said they were "ninjas".

They are single individuals, presumably "dressed down" a bit to sneak into an enemy city.

In a world lacking street corner surveillance cameras and hand held radios.

Might make it past the walls a little more frequently, IMHO. But not the point of my question.

There's actually very little militia in this city, but most of its troops are massed there.

it would probably be fair to say it's not an infil thing, it's an no unit thing..

and i don't think the safe passage thing has even been implemented yet..

Nosferatus

it seems like infiltrator are easily caught as nobles, which is a bit weird if you ask me.
Normal nobles would probably go sleep in fancy places, have some crew of some sort, dress well, go to noble specific facilities.
Commoners would notice the presence of a noble and gossip it around, so will soldiers and even other nobles  in the region personally notice there presence.
While Infiltrators are the kind of 'under cover' noble, dressed in common cloaths and thus not bothered by anyone.

Beeing invisible was the solution but is now removed.
A good solution for now could perhaps be showing infils as if there adventurers, there dressed the same, why not find them the same way?
Only a notorious infil would be recognized by name, not beeing an advy.

The bad side is that you can thus also beat and arrest an infil on command like advies.
If an assassination happens, a lord could order the arrest of all advies in the region and just torturing all of them until you know who did it(or who confesses :P).
Much more fun.

That's one way to see it. It's not the only valid way, of course; i don't see my infil like that. 90% of the time, he's a normal troop leader.

Infiltrator is only a sub-class; you're still first and foremost a noble, second a warrior/courtier/etc, and infiltration is just a sideline.

That would make infiltrator an adventurer subclass. That does not work if you think of them as nobles, but acting like advies. If they act like advies, they're advies.
After all it's a roleplaying game.

When my infil is in friendly or home regions, he dresses and behaves like a normal noble.

When he is sneaking into an enemy city to scout and do dirty tricks, I think of him as being a little more subtle  :P
