Wiki / Re: Can we improve the wiki?
August 05, 2013, 05:14:46 PM
This is really important. The wiki has been and could be a really engaging part of the Battlemaster experience, and it saddens me that there's less IC content being posted on it than there used to be.

I know that I skip most messages from SA these days.

Makes me wonder if there might not be a readership for a newsletter summarising the week's communications in SA...

Clearly, Arcaea needs a better PR campaign.

I think we just enjoy being the domineering Empire too much to try and spin it any other way.

BM General Discussion / Re: I Hate Food

I think if the food price cap is lifted it will solve the biggest problem of food shortages; people not bothering to trade. As a rural lord, literally the only times my characters have had to sell at prices below the maximum is because of fealty/friendship reasons.

Gustav, it obviously varies by genre. Targeting a point in 3d space is mathematically simple, so AI can beat humans in FPSs. In strategy games, tho, AI often struggle to behave rationally, or sometimes even vaguely understandably (Total War diplomacy, take a bow).

I think you're all overestimating the underestimation involved in overestimating the Prophet.

Scarlett, if it's any consolation- seeing Septimus's death was one of the things that first convinced me to stick with BM. "What, the most powerful character here just died? This is clearly not like any other game."

Not a matter of honour, exactly, but Kublai Khan held a massive religious debate. Not really a close enough example, though, I suppose.

I kinda like this idea in theory, but wonder how it might work in practice. Would it just be a 'satisfy your honour' kind of thing?

Might be more interesting to give it some teeth. Put honour/prestige at stake, or allow two priests to debate where the winner  converts some locals.

FYI, not seeing this feature (or army banners on the region info page, actually) on chrome. It's there on Firefox.

Despite the church's corruption etc it had pretty intense ideological influence. Any individual Pope might not be able to have his way, but as an institution the church influenced behaviour quite significantly. One reason for its immense wealth was that nobles kept leaving it lots of money, to get them into heaven!

Unfortunately this kind of thing requires more RP investment than most people consider worth bothering with. A sufficiently widespread & active church can reduce the ideological legwork required, e.g. SA, but then you have the problem of coordinating people into the same church. In particular, I've found, getting motivated and active priests together around the same idea can be tricky.

Finding examples of noble led mercenaries between 700 and 1300 AD is complicated mainly by the fact that the concept of 'noble' in that period (especially towards the start) was much more fluid than it is in Battlemaster...
